RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Dome ;was Own submarine pen (Eurosub)

Title: Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Own submarine pen (Eurosub)

Depth capability for free blown domes depends on many factors. We have formed some that have been tested as deep as 2000 ft (over 600 M).

Jon,

Conversion factor??

Operational depth estimate comes from GL table. If you look up the scale destruction test data in Stachiw’s book, it will fail at some 2500 M.

Emile,

I assume you are not including a conversion factor to get the 500M depth estimate?

Hi Alan,

Nemo 100 makes the domes also with the hot pressing method.

Blowing is the simplest way and make the tooling is the least effort. Limit is 200 metres in my opinion.

Pressing is far better for roundness , material efficiency and thickness.

For the 24” / 610 mm OD. Dome we start with 35 mm plate. After forming it is still 35 mm on the edge and 25 in the apex!. Good for some 500 M ;-)
