Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Lead Plates Removel on K-250 #118

That would be "cut out and replace" while lurking outside Murmansk or somewhere, right? Now you don't have just a job, you have an adventure. And don't drop a wrench, right? Sharp noises are frowned upon under those circumstances.

As for dissimilar metals, remember that your common, garden-variety never-seize has copper in it, which will in fact keep your bolt from seizing while providing an improved electrical pathway. Nickel based never-seize is closer to inerty and helps to avoid that sort of problem (say with aluminum to steel, or even aluminum to aluminum with SS fasteners).

Brent,
They will more likely gall.  Nuke fittings are all SS and we heavily coated all threads with molybdenum Never-Seize and we would still have difficulties with galling at times.  It was a bitch when a valve cap galled (most likely component for it to happen to) as the whole valve would have to be cut out and replaced…a nasty over-haul!

What if you just coated the threads and nuts with some good quality supper stinky aquarium type silicone to keep the saltwater out, and keep the SS from galling?
