That sounds ideal for us! We could play with the tone frequency easy enough so that the transmitted frequency has optimum range (Lower frequencies will travel farther say 1 to 3 khz) From whom could we obtain the computer program? This sounds simple, but as yourself, programing is not my area of skill either!
The speed could be slow...say 300hz...such as the suggested slower modem speeds of yesteryear...

You made me think of an idea for communicating only using tones sent out as Morse Code from a computer to another computer. You type in a message to one computer and then press send, and the computer would send out Morse Code to the other computer(s) and just like text messaging, the text shows up on another device for someone else to read. Each computer would be able to read the incoming Morse Code sent in tones and then convert it to text.
That way you don't need to know Morse Code, just know how to type. That's the basic idea. How to program the computers is not my area.
