RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Sub Heater Options

David

Off course, I would be very happy to exchange any ideas, thoughts, and
solutions with you.

Like you said, there's a lot of problems related to underwater
communication, and both transmitting and receiving has it's own problems
that need solving (unless we just go shopping).

It appears we both were capable of generating a musical tone under water,
and have somebody else listening to it from a said distance.

The thing is, I'm still working with this "single tone", and will do so
until I have my own, homemade system for underwater telegraphy.

(A digital, ROM based "emergency message generator" would be part of that
system.)

I need to improve the signal/noise ratio in the receiver circuitry, and
hope to do this with adjustable bandpass filtering.

And finally, when my ultrasound tone generator design is working and
properly tested using a simple piezo-electric disk submerged in a local
pond...

then I need to think of a 10 - 20 watts output amplifier, perfectly
matched and driving a high quality sonar transducer.

Done that, I'll see if I can master two (distinctively different) tones.

And if so, I think it should be possible to connect up a pair of slow
(early 80's) data modems. One in the submarine, the other up above.

And since communication with digital data can be combined with it's own
error checking, so to speak, I believe this would be worth trying prior to
going analog.

After all this, maybe I would have gained enough confidence (and skill?)
to try prototyping a voice-modulated utrasound transceiver with proper
analog sound processing and all.

regards,
Jens Laland,

PS.: I need to send you some schematics, but my hand-drawn sketches will
have to be scanned at the public library, since my own computer is down at
the moment. I'll try to get them off to you tomorrow.
