Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Mock up pics

Hi Hugh,
You're right about the ledge I'm creating to change the diameter.  Adding thicker material around the base of the conning tower may still be an option for me but what I was considering doing, ( and which is not really included on the mock up, except for a short 2x4) was to add some external gussets to add more structure to the area around the conning tower.  Sort of like external ribs except they would not go all the way around, only in the same area as where the thicker material around the conning tower would be.   I would come off the "ledge" with some flanges, using the ledge area for additional structure.  Welded of course.  Hope that makes sense.

I may have room for two.

Hi Brian,

I was looking at your mockup photo and thought you were referring to adding reinforcing over the top of the hull plating but I saw that you were making a ledge of sorts to change diameters I believe.

Yes, I was talking about the thicker material around the base of the conning tower.  In normal pressure vessels you are able to add reinforcing plate on top of the shell but in subs you cannot have 2 layers and the thickness must be made up from one plate thickness.

I think you are already doing this anyway.   30 inches is pretty small .  With your mockup you should also mockup a scrubber and other components as they start to take up a lot of your space.  Are you doing it for one person or  two?  Chs,  Hugh

Your probably talking about thicker material around the conning tower but part of the main hull cylinder.

Hi Brian, I had another look and was obviously confused.  Looks like you got it sorted and the diameter is 30” Hugh

Hi All,

I uploaded some pics of my mock up of my pressure hull.  It is sitting on a trailer in my garage.  The same way it will be and on the same trailer as when I get the actual pressure hull.  ( Good idea to commendeer that space before the wife does !!)  Also added a picture of my newly aquired diesel engine under a seperate catagory.
