Brian, what do you consider best bangs for bucks for forward
sonar? Hugh From: owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org
[mailto:owner-personal_submersibles@psubs.org] On Behalf Of andy
goldstein The
gemini is nice too. Yes
blueview is a very nice sonar works very well, I was very impressed with the
mercury unit as well I have the mercury unit on our Hyball and it seems to be working
pretty well, the sonar not the hyball the hyball has a few problems with the
topside unit I am trying to work thru, had I fell stronger today I probably
would have throw it overboard but it was too much work getting to the rail, but
if it was easy everyone would be doing it, the computer I am building will be
running a windows based software mostly because of the availability of
applications. The
Bluefin AUV has an SAS system onboard and the was an impressive sonar for
imaging I had the opportunity to see the SS Portland wreck via the SAS sonar
and detail is unbelievable. Andy
where you referring to the tritech Gemini ? I have seen some screen shots
very impressive that’s my only complaint with blueview its such a narrow window

On Behalf Of andy goldstein The
BlueView is Ethernet. Not sure about the scanning
sonar, but most scanning sonars I've seen are rs-232 or rs-485. Both units use a very simple serial port interface into a laptop and a very small program to run it I am also working on a computer that when finished will be 2 inches by 4 inches by 4 inches with a 13" screen to run them in the sub and the keyboard will be an IPhone it will also have a digital direction tilt and yaw sensor in it, I got the Idea from edgetech side scan sonar we had our's factory serviced and they replaced all the components which still worked just not able to run the new version of software so I started playing around built a case and installed the compass in the same case it runs on 12 volts uses a 500gig laptop drive I will have about 200 dollars in it less the Iphone, so to answer your question it's very easy to use the data Brian V. Could you tell us a little about the systems? Are these units displaying data on a laptop/desktop system or on a dedicated display? How hard would it be to get the data out of the sonar system for use in a third party application? Cheers! Ian. -----Original Message----- From: "Brian V.
