RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] The last dance by David Bartsch

Jens,

     Your right again! Its AIP.
The U.S. Navy paid for sonar testing using an AIP craft to aid them in better detecting such a submarine. I truely hope some R&D funds are being spent on making our own fleet of small long duration submarines with this type of propulsion.
Not to discourage anyone delving into this, but look how long Navies of the world have tried to pull this off. Its basically a diesel running at low rpm underwater. The exhaust need to be cooled and cleaned, oxygen enriched and reused again. It is a reuser for the engine much like scuba gear rebreathers only a whole lot more complicated.
     Good information Jens.
