I'd like to suggest the following modification to be used in
conjunction with the Subconn BH4F thru-hull connector.
In order to get the biggest bang for the buck and allow the BH4F
connector to be used for multiple purposes, it would make sense to
have an additional connector between the equipment to be used, and
the BH4F unit on the interior of the submersible. Otherwise you
will be constantly disassembling and resoldering wire connections to
meet the electrical needs of a particular piece of equipment.
Given the low cost of the Tyco connectors and their rather elegant
mating style, I recommend we adopt the following configuration which
will allow for easy connect/disconnect and allow the BH4F to be used
for a multitude of purposes. Please see the following link for a
graphical representation of my proposal at:

For reference, here are links to engineering drawings for A1351-ND
(206153) and A1357-ND (206429) Tyco connectors.

AMENDMENT PROPOSAL
-------------------------------
1) INTERIOR electrical path.
Equipment -> A1357-ND -> A1351-ND -> BH4F
2) A1351-ND and BH4F are wired straight through, pin for pin.
a) PIN1 = black wire
b) PIN2 = white wire
c) PIN3 = red wire
d) PIN4 = green wire
3) A1357-ND is wired according to the requirements of the equipment
being used.
4) This combination allows for:
a) Easy disconnect of equipment.
b) A custom length pigtail between A1351-ND and BH4F to fit the
needs of individual subs.
c) Use of the BH4F connector for any equipment requiring up to four
electrical connections. BH4F is the most expensive connector.
5) The same configuration can be used externally with the Subconn
IL4M, although
this connector is less expensive. Note that the Tyco part numbers
specified do
not include an o-ring to seal the mating between A1357-ND and
A1351-ND.
Tyco part number 206153-2 does include a peripheral seal, however
Digikey
does not stock this item and has a minimum order quantity of 100
($561.00 or
$5.61 each). Since the sealed and non-sealed parts have the same
physical
dimensions it may be possible to simply add an appropriate sized o-
ring to the
A1351-ND non-sealed unit.
