Hi Glen,

I recall Dan H. talking about that a short time ago. When he goes down, since the water tends to be a fair bit colder down at depth If he was down there long, when he came back up there as a little less pressure inside the sub. So to be able to open the hatch he would open the snorkel valve to equalize.

Can you or anyone else please tell me if the snorkel valve is necessary and is its purpose also to equalize the subs pressure on surfacing to open the hatch.
