Hi Vance,
I'm not meaning that the emails we are sending are
garbage, as I've contributed to a few.
But because I'm not so far down the track, I've had
to spend a fare bit of time doing word searches
in the archives of our emails to find
information, and these contain everything including your email
and mine wich will come up in a search on "building a personal submersible" but won't be
of help to anyone (garbage).
I'm agreeing with Alan who suggested a psub group
book and provided subject headings.
I photocopy a lot of the good emails and file them
under subject headings, I even have some of yours
on welding. If we could have some sort of online
book with the best emails, white papers and links it would
go a long way to helping people in the future. I
don't know exactly how this would work or could work but think it's
worth discussing. Just recently Jon put through a
good technical email on condensation in subs wich was as good
as a white paper but in the future could be
difficult for someone to find. If this was nominated to go in an online
book
it would be easily accessed later on.
Any thoughts on the merit of the book
idea?
regards Alan

Alan,
Pardon me if I quote: The purpose of this sight is
to help people to build submarines safely and I think your suggestion would
take things to the level we need to be at.
Who's to say where we need
to be at (and who grades this stuff for grammar, anyway?)? Sifting through the
"garbage" as you call it should tell you something more about the site, which
is ABOUT personal submersibles and INCLUDES information on building same, but
isn't restricted to one or the other. You want white papers? Write one. We'll
be happy and interested to see it.
Meanwhile, I'll sift throught
the garbage and add to it from time to time. And I'm working on a couple of
white papers right now, one on pneumatic MBT valves, one on converting
trolling motors for deeper service, and a third on a home made scrubber. I
hope one day they will provide you with some how-to information. If not, just
toss 'em in the trash.
Vance

Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Building a Personal Submersible
Hi Alan,
Yes manned submersibles is a great introduction
but as you've said, something more specific and relevant needs writing. Over
the last 10 months I've done several searches on the psub sight and you can
really get bogged down sifting through a lot of garbage looking for that gem
of information thats hidden there. And this process will only get worse as our
daily emails are added to this pool. Also as Jon stated we need white papers
so that new people can go to them rather than other forums and have people
answer the same questions over and over. I had suggested that the emails are
vetted and removed from the search pool=2 0so its not clogged up with stuff
like this email wich has no relevance to anyone wanting to build a
sub.
The purpose of this sight is to help people to
build submarines safely and I think your suggestion would take things to the
level we need to be at.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Building a
Personal Submersible
“Manned submersibles” is an
interesting book but much of the information doesn’t apply to personal
submersibles and all of it is dated. I’ve written about six pages in
which every topic (I think) is at least mentioned. This is only about
20% of the whole book and it still needs to be organize d into chapters but
if everyone who has built a personal submersible reads it and adds a bit, it
would be a decent guide that would not be available anywhere else. You
could then add it to your website and either charge for it or give it away
as you choose. Please note that much of the information is my best
guess rather than an informed opinion. I’ve attached a very rough
draft of the book.
