Hi Jon,
Oil filled systems usually have a "bladder" or "bellows" so that oil can
flow into the space if there are bubbles of gas that compress under
pressure- this make it less likely that seawater will try to get in to fill
the space left by the gas. A long loop of flexible tubing works fine for
something small like a trolling motor and also makes it easy to fill.

What is the purpose of the loop of tubing? Is this to provide expansion
for bubbles that might be present?
