Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] oil compensation - ADS NewtSuit/HardSuit Applications
Hi, Carsten!
Before I can comment on type of comp fluid - need to know what kind
of motors you are using - Brushless PM or conventional low voltage
brush-type motors? Typical RPM?
We use several comp fluids depending on the turning member and
speed/voltage., etc. For example, we use a synthetic oil (primarily
silicone with some 'special' additives) for the Newtsuit joints, because
they turn so slowly (relative to a thruster motor), we use a different type
and viscosity of fluid for the Newtsuit thruster-pack thrusters because the
entire motor and reduction gear is comped - and the reduction and motive
tranference hardware is quite complex (since we use only a single motor to
operate either vertically or horizontally - by having the motor running at
full RPM (about 3000 RPM) and cutting in the variable pitch propellor
blades to either vertical or horizontal - or some of each. This allows us
to get reaction instantly - instead of waiting for the props to 'run up').
So . . .a high speed motor, reduction gear, right angle drive, and
mechanical activation rods for pitch control - all churning around at once!
The comp fluid is a very low viscosity so that fluid shear doesn't give us
torque or lag problems.
Let me know and I'll tell you exactly what we use - developed after
much cyphering, head-scratching and trial & error! (G)
Regards
Phil
