  Hi Jim,

sounds like we are on the same wave length for mig use. I will most
likely use tig and stick for the conning tower build up and attachment. I just
ordered a Miller dynasty 200dx and will be looking for reasons to use it.
I was using one in the welding class I just completed and fell in love
with it. it is the same welder the Miller rep had at the convention last
year. The class instructors, to the man,  brag about the
machine; even saying it makes a better stick machine than most of  the
dedicated stick welders on the market.
this afternoon I'm going to look at the tank I was
offered. It looks like the steel is good and strong from what you and Frank
sent me. I,m sure 516 is more perfect, but I must remember I live in the
Arizona desert and a deep body of water is any thing over 5ft.
  thanks
  Randy

    Hi again Randy,

Personally I think that this dual shield method is ideal be cause you
get most of the speed of the mig and most of the benefits of stick. It is
the method that I am using. Because wire is much less dense than a stick it
is very important to weld steel preheated to about 200 degrees for best
results, especially in heavier sections to assure good penetration. I got
the 200 deghree figure from Dan Lance who really is our welding guru and the
    expert in this area.

I do know that Dan prefers stick welding from conversations with
    him.

    Best Regards,

    Jim K

      HI Jim

My plans are to use the dual shield method whenever i use mig on
pressure related areas. That is I will use gas in conjuction with the
shielded wire. Do you know of a problem with this method for our
      application?
      thanks
      Randy
