Hi guys. I've had an idea for several years now on wet suits. Take a
standard wet suit design, and split the neoprene in half ( actually, just use
two layers at half the thickness ) and between the two layers, embed a stainless
steel wire mesh, thin enough to remain flexible, between the two layers.
Make the weave/mesh close enough to flex, but not so dense that it would
restrict movement.
The joints at arms, legs, etc. would be a problem to overcome, but it
should be possible to electro weld the mesh together at those points before you
glue them together.
It could be marketed as a shark deterrent. Notice I didn't say shark PROOF.
Although a shark would still bite you, he may not be able to take the body part
away quite so easily. As a diver and occasional surfer, it's an idea that has
always stuck in my mind and I'm sure I could make one. Alas, I'm too busy with
my other dreams. Frank D.
