Hi Doug,
I'm mostly done with design, except for some small
items later in the program. I have started building. I have the cylindrical
portion of the hull finish welded and 90 % or so of the rib welding complete. I
have ordered the 39 inch dome from Greg Cottrell as well as the 9 smaller
viewports. The steel for the conning tower will be delivered to my shop on
Friday. So while I have a lot of things started, I do not have very much
completed yet. I am now machining viewport seats.
Let me know how you come out with your motor
controlers.
Dan H in Pennsylvania has a very tidy thruster
arrangement with small micro switches inside the control handles of each
thruster.
I plan on having one stick on my right hand control
all three thrusters, similar to a plane. The left hand will primarily deal with
ballasting and forward/reverse weight bias.
Best Regards,
Jim Kocourek

be times that asymetrical thrust will be usefull."
I have a design that
hopefully will work: www.submarineboat.com/sub/wiring.html
See "Helm" almost half way down the page. It kills the thruster on the
inside of a turn. And by hitting a button a relay will flip that thruster to a
second dual pot that is set to reverse. I'll know more in a week or
so.
I think the easiest arraignment I saw was someone was just using
the normal control head and they just worked one head with each hand; sort of
like driving a track vehicle. Maybe someone here remember the sub I am
thinking of. It was built from a propane tank I think.
Are you
building or designing now Jim? Sorry I can remember.
Doug

Hi again Doug,
I was talking with the people at
trollingmotorparts.com, I think I talked with Jim, a very knowledgable and
helpful person about controllers. They have many different controllers
available. I am still undecided about what I will do, but am leaning toward
three separate controllers mounted to my stick or very close to it. While I
like the idea of syncronizing them I feel that there will be times that
asymetrical thrust will be usefull.
If you come up with something clean let me know,
because I can clearly see the advantages to both ways.
Best Regards,
Jim Kocourek

Jim
I'm glad to hear
that. I have two of them on my work table now and I am waiting for a
new dual pot that I hope I will be able to use in order to sync them
together. The dual pots I got off ebay from a guy in Arkansas
are total POS. Never trust those Hillbillies. :)
If this dual
pot approach does not work I will need a new idea about how sync
the speed of two thrusters. You aren't by chance going to
sync them to one controller are you? Any ideas on
it?
Thanks Doug J Tulsa Okie www.submarineboat.com
Hi Doug,
I just wanted to say thanks! Back in August
07 you reccommended trollingmotorparts.com as a source for thrusters and
other minn-kota things. I have purchased my first thruster for fit up and
a couple of other items and found them to be exceptionally
helpful.
