Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] teathers

Hi Dean,

I'm not an expert, but do have many hours in a small plane. Most all small aircraft are equiped with a Gyro Compass. While most primary navigation is done with GPS, the Gyro compass is a good back-up. I was planning on using a Gyro compass. The downside to this is that it needs to be set against a magnetic compass while on the surface (I believe) the gyro will maintain heading for quite a long time without the need for a magnetic reading. They will precess ( change heading reading slightly due to gyro bearing friction) however a good one will run for an hour or so without changing more than 5 degrees or so if my memory serves. Anyway that is what I intend to use due to simplicity and cost, using this along with dead reckoning.

Best Regards,

Doug thanks for the link to drag equation.

I have not run the numbers, don't have them yet, but just looking
at it surprises me.

Which brings me to a point on navigation and communication.

Without surface antenna's any way to accomplish accurate
navigation?

I know there are ways of using GPS and WAAS underwater at depths
but I don't think the navy will loan me the equipment.

And also thanks for the side info on the page

thrust = 35-40lbs per HP

I am sure, this is the first simple conversion it helps us dummies a lot.
