RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Psub in distress

Brent,

Dry suit zippers due not like to be bent sharply so very long zippers are not really feasible in most dry suits (plus they are very expensive).  In addition, unless carefully placed, will limit mobility.  A number of years ago, there was a wet suit made for helo crewmembers that could be worn full time and if dumped in the water, long zippers were pulled up and the suit became form fitting and thus provide better thermal insulation.  Aircrew survival suits have been built like dry suits but do not require the mobility of a dry suit.  These are worn full time and the Kevlar-NOMEX III-Gortex material will sort of breathe until immersed in water where it becomes water proof.  Over 15 years ago, this material cost $75/yard and was difficult to acquire in the small quantities that a dry suit manufacturer would require to meet the expected demand for a suit of this nature.

Carsten,

I would think with all the wet and dry suit manufactures out there, there must be a suit that has or can be made with allot of long zippers and or velcro seams for making it much easier to put on in a small area. Of course as you say it's going to be very hard to put on a regular suit, if at all in allot of smaller PSUB's.

Regards, Brent

I've been thinking about a PSUB design were the main pressure hull can detach from the main supper structure and float to the surface, if your supper structure is entangled or other issues.
