i wonder if there would be a way to design a sort of "pop up" tower, that 
could fold away during a dive to eliminate its drag, but upon surfacing 
could accordian or pop up to prevent wave splash for entering the hatch... 
kind of like the viewfinder on top of the old Roliflex cameras?
just a thought...
