Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Underwater pumpkin caving.

Hi Simon.

Yes, every year around holloween time,  Sea Pines dive club here in Hudson, Fl., hosts a underwater pumpkin carving contest.

You can't start carving the pumpkin til you are in the water and no faces can be drawn on them. Totally freehand carving underwater.

We go out a few miles into the gulf in several boats. Then we flip over the side and people on the boat pass us our pumpkins. We have 30 mins

to carve the best holloween pumpkin face we can. Then we have judges decide who carved the best pumpkin underwater. The winner gets prizes like

a dive light or wet suit, etc. Because the pumpkin wants to float, he thing to do is to cut out the pumpkin stem on top and place a weight into the

pumpkin so it will sit on the bottom because it is very hard to carve the pumpkin if it is floating. It's just a fun thing we do like some people bob for

apples. We have an underwater pumpkin carving contest in celebration of Holloween.

Bill.

Whew! Well hurricane Wilma is past. We got some strong rain and winds and a few tree limbs down, but no damage. We dodged the bullet here in Hudson, Fl.

How about you Joe Perkel? and any other Florida members in the hurricane's path? I hope noone had any damage. Wev'e had a LOT of hurricanes in Florida recently.

The gulf is going to be very murky and the underwater visibility will be bad for about a week.

But wev'e been VERY lucky. All I had was a storage shed demolished during hurricane Charlie and my dive club had to cancel our underwater pumpkin carving dive we were susposed to do on sunday. Rats!
