Seems we had a few military barracks blown up in
lebanon and among other locations. Those were military
targets.
The USS Cole was a military target. Some might say
the goal of terrorists is terror. But I believe their goal is
attention
and recognition for their cause. Hitting a civilian
target is easier than a military one usually, but both get the worlds
attention.
Kindest Regards,
Bill Akins.

Previous? Meaning past tense?
Ok.
I
believe that you are going to attack any type of target; it would
be prudent to attack a soft target (civilian) vs. a hard target (military).
To engage a Warship of any country is a military target, and that is
not the goal of terrorism, that is a strategic target, and it would not
serve any political agenda, other than the destruction of that intended
target.
Also, if you truly intended to carry out such a attack, ocean
liners would be the best targets, due to a variety of reasons, one of which
is the lack of sonar, other than your basic depth finder, and other
navigational equipment, it would be the best target for being a soft
target, plus the lives onboard. Another reason is, when any liner makes a
port call, there is not alot of maritime security, due to the nature of the
ports...(many of which is civlian resorts, and little to no security)
However, I could be wrong about most of what I said, but, due to my
job, I have 8 years of experience in such matters. So, I do what I am
talking about.

RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Seahorse news
during my previous experience in
combat diving, we have been chasing divers from a famous environmental
group, they always have been successfull in damaging surface warships
including a nuclear british submarine. only once 3 of them were caught at
the beach later, 3 ladies, 55 olds. if 3 55 y old ladies can damage a
nuclear british sub, beleive me terrorist WILL be successfull against a
US ship with less experience in this matter. What happened to the US Cole
would not have happened to a British or french war ship very well
prepared against this type of attack at this time . Again this behavior of
thinking that it cannot happen against such powerfull navy ship
will have consequences. if the sub is moving under a thermocline in an port
it will not be detected by sonar. in ports Russian ships run full
blown sonar, not to detect subs or divers but to disable them if
any. then even you detect it, you got 2 minutes top to respond, good
luck... Best Herve Mensaje citado por "Gillis Christopher S,
