That 36 amps seemed a little excessive to me so I checked the Rule web site

As follows: the Rule 4000 gph (US gallons) is 15 amps at 12vdc.
The Rule 1100 gph (US gallons) is 3.3 amps @ 12vdc.

Still a large current, but with a proper switch the danger is small. At 36A though it would have been risky and a solid state switch would be better.

Regarding the bilge pump thrusters, it would be a good idea to install an
arming switch to the hot wire in case the pumps activated without permission
(should the contacts weld together).

Always a good safety measure.
