Hi
Julian
i
thought 'colonies' wasn't p.c.anymore? anyway i guessed by the .ca in your
mail addy that it wasn't the UK.
How
long has it been since you've had a working vehicle and what functions does the
PIC perform?
Mine
is at least starting to take shape but i keep changing my plans.
I already have a simple digital control system that consists of a remote
interface box with 5.6" LCD monitor.
The 3
axis motor control is initially going to be purely digital, there will be a
tilting colour CCD camera on board and basic telemetry was going to be relayed
visually through the camera. I even managed to get some neutrally
buoyant cable from the nice people at Videoray.
As i
am progressing (novice understanding) with my Basic stamp, my eyes
have really been opened to the possibilities that a microcontroller can
offer to this type of project. i am thinking of incorporating a 'maintain
current depth' feature, a digital compass, depth sensing and variable thruster
control into the vehicle. i also intend to mount an LCD display in my
controller to display the vehicle status information.
I'm
not trying to get ahead of myself but when i can't be actually building the sub,
then if i get some free time i keep myself busy with the software side of
things.
At the start of
this year, i was fortunate to be able to visit the new Ocean Frontier centre
which is part of Stenmar's Underwater centre in Fort William,
Scotland.
although they cancelled my trip on their 2 man sub
(very disappointed) i did get several goes on the Seaeye 600DT ROV that they have in the tank for use by visitors to the
centre. certainly out of my budget range but it gave me some really good
ideas i believe i can implement in my design without getting out of my depth;
besides learning is always more productive if there is an actual goal to
achieve!
Regards
steve

Hello, Steve...
Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you, but I am not
in the UK....I'm over in the colonies...Canada to be exact.
My ROV is also "tube-y", but it's been alot of
fun building it. I currently have a working vehicle, using
PIC microcontrollers programmed in
C.
I'd love to compare notes on the sorts of "bells
and whistle" you envision...
Regards,
Julian

Hi Mark /
Julian
glad to see
there at least two of us in the uk. if we can get the numbers up we
could have our own convention (slightly bitter because i can't go to
Portland) :(
personally i
have a 'thing' about 1ATM subs, don't really know why, i had some
interesting sinus issues when i was learning to dive and i figured if i ever
built something this would be a good solution and a good challenge......when
i've got the time ......and extra garage space............one
day
Good luck with
your project, hope to see some pics soon on moki?
My ROV project
is nothing great, i've been working on it for a long time but it is coming
along slowly; its also being used as a springboard to advance my Basic
programming as i intend to use a Stamp to provide some intelligence to the
vehicle.
My Design is
similar to the one at www.videoray.com
and the Benthic 'little geek' from The Abyss. Having searched all the
net for information on home builds, i was dissmayed to see they all look
like bits of drain pipe and although mine is no different, i'm determined to
produce something that at least looks the part.
kind of a proof
of concept with bells and whistles
Regards
steve

Hello, Steve.
Sorry to bud in like this, but as it happens I
am also involved building ROVs
as well as AUVs. What sort of things are
you working on?
Regards,
Julian Ford
Hi Steve
I'm in Bolton again Land locked but
fortunatly i get to spend a lot of time diving in both Angelsey and
South Cornwall I'm hoping to combine the two
interests. Primarily interested in Ambient pressure subs,
Already started to build the Delta Wing and
got a design of my own on the drawing board (literally)

Hey Mark there's one here in
Reddtich, Worcs, just about as far from the water as possible :( i
dont contribute much, just lots of drooling over Dans sub etc. and a
long running ROV project on the go Where do you hail
from?
Steve
Are there any UK psuber's
