Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] fish shaped submarine [Was: end caps]
Hi Ian,
I like your fish design too
(reminds me to a wetsub design I starded years befor but never finished)
I want to suggest you a strong connection between the centers of the endcaps. It makes the design of the inner space more complicate (hope you can use it usefull) but such a stiff connection will increase the strength of your pressure hull indeed.
If you canīt live with such a pipe inside your sub there is an other possibility:
enlarge the size of the endcaps and set a cylinder between the caps. (in the way that you get a double hull around the circumference...
Such a cylinder should met the endcaps some inches behind the smal radius...
You will lost some space but You get a good stability and extra tank capacity...
If there are additional radial bulkheads lets say every 45 degree or so ... the inner cylinder canīt buckle and the thickness can be relatively thin...
By the way... if you have a look at a modern container ship .... take the main frame cut and have a look for the design of the double hull bottom and the curved side wall connection...you will find a similar construction...

tommorow I should make a sketch didnīt I?
