Hi folks,
-------------------------------------
"avoid having any welds in the
weakest/most stressed area" A properly made
weld on high pressure pipe or
a pressure vessel will always beat the pipe,
that is the weld and the heat
affected zone will be stronger than the parent
material.

-------------------------------------
The
problem are not the weld as it is, but the internal stress inside the
structure due to the thermal influence by the welding process.
("Schweißeigenspannungen" in German)
If you are able to minimize this
remaining stresses (by re-heating or hamering) ... then you have only to
concider the influence of the weld seam geometrie and the influence of the
harder material in the welding zone ("geometrische und material Kerbwirkung")
never the less it is possible to handle the problems with welding in
high stressed zones but the best way to solve a problem is to avoid the
problem, ist´nt it?
