This is an interesting idea; a clever way to improve hull strength.
 
I've played with this sort of design myself, mainly because I got tired of sitting in a small cylinder.  The vertically-situated double-end-cap design allows the occupant much more room to move without the displacement / weight requirements imposed by an entire sphere.  It's also more hydrodynamic.
I have some designs that are basically two end caps mated to a very short cylindrical section inbetween, just to give a bit more elbow room.  I came up with some additions to the hull that might improve hatch location and footroom.  Basically, she's built more for comfort and maneuverability than speed; kind of like a little "underwater helicopter".
If I can figure out how you guys are working "moki", I'll scrounge around to find some of my old drawings and see if I can post them.
