" Does anyone out there building a psub ever write formal reports and
descriptions of the boat?"
Mike, when I was building the Nautilus, I documented everything the same
form and language I've used in patents to describe what a device is
comprised of and how it works. That's one way of doing it.
"Might we be able to come up with, at the very least, a standardized format
for reporting design and operational characteristics?"
I suppose it would depend on the purpose and requirements of the report,
wouldn't it? I mean: If a clear technical description of the structure
itself (both in terms of each individual part listed seperately, and as a
complete unit); and how it operates is what's required, the technical
writing characteristic of patent documentation might be adequate. But if
something more physics-oriented is the goal, a more scientific approach
might be desirable.
What kind of report or description did you have in mind?
