I always thought it was Japanese: as in "motto su'koshe, kudasai." Motto
means "more"; su'koshe (the u is not pronounced, but kind of skipped over to
give a sk sound) means "little bit", and kudasai means something like "give
me" or "bring me". (I might not be spelling it right.)When I was overseas
in the 60's, a "skoshi bit" meant a little bit: as in, "give me a skoshi bit
more." That got shortened to "a skosh", as in trousers that have a "skosh"
more room in them. Basically, a "skosh" is a slang unit of measurement
meaning a little bit, a tad, a taste, etc.
