[PSUBS-MAILIST] caught up, OT misc computer stuff
There! I'm all caught up reading the list now, and I've deleted all the old messages and my mailbox is all very tidy now. (That's why you got a sudden flood of mails all in a row from me.)
Computer Question 1:
Who here is *not* using a so-called "PC" or "IBM compatible" or "clone" or whatever you call it? Is there an e-mail program I ought to know about, which will organize messages into threads by their subject-headers? I'm quite fond of the old version of Eudora Light I'm using, but I might change my mind if I came across something which would do the same thing with tons of e-mail that my newsreader does with tons of Usenet articles. I think I asked about this once before -- I'm just seeing if there's any new news.
Computer Question 2:
About this AVI-movie thing. This seems as good a time as any to figure out why I don't seem to be able to run anything but straight QuickTime movies with the QuickTime player. As I understand it, it's supposed to be able to show AVI's, MPEG's, and who-knows-what-else's. But every single time I've tried to open one I've gotten a "because it's in a format I don't understand" sort of response. I searched Apple's site and found inconclusive references to different flavors of movies and needing different compressors, but no definite way to resolve it. Seems if they're trying to push QT so hard it would concern them that most of the movie-content out there doesn't seem to work with it in the configuration it downloads in. Or, could this be some undocumented problem with my old-processor, old-System arrangement? (A Quadra 650 with 7.5)
I'm only posting this here in case there's one of you who's Mac and QuickTime savvy enough to have already resolved this -- and because I really really want to get it fixed so I can look at Pat's movie!
