Re: Calculation request
Carsten - from Germany
Difficult to translate 1N/mm² = 10 bar =
the equal of the pressure deep of 100 m (328feet).
1mm square to 1 mm with 1 inch is 25,4 mm means that
25,4 x 25,4 mm is 1 square inch is 645 square mm.
so 210 N/mm² should be 210/645 = 0,3255 N per square inch.
so 370 N/mm² should be 370/645 = 0,5735 N per square inch.
370N/mm² is the tensile strength of the steel.
1 N = 1 Newton = is the equal of 0,1 Kilogramm = 100 Gramm.
My tables are use in Germany for Pressure tanks for general
porpose. ST 37 steel is normal working steel for general porpose.
ST 37 = for General porpose (370 N/mm²)
ST 42 = for Ships (420 N/mm2)
ST 52 = for Submarines (520 N/mm²)
the numbers give the tensile strength.
If I will find a way to dive the monster to 90 m ( 295 feet)
with a security level of 2 (- so the destroy deep is
about 600 feet -) I will buy the boat. She has so beautiful
lines. And I like a good fight with a bad submarine.
Seems that its need another 2 years to made a real submarine
to this surface driven - dive on one point static - not deeper
than 20-40 Meter bottom line (66-122 feet) motorboat.
At the moment their are no pressure bottles conected to the dive tanks.
The owner runs the diesel on the bottom (not deeper than 66 feet) to
blown out the tanks and surface. Normaly the sub surfaced at the time
the air-indicator inside cycles 8 times in the wrong direction and it is
very difficult to talk in the sub to another person - the air pressure
is so low at this time.. after surfacing he open a small check vale
on the hutch to make the in- and outside pressure to one level to open
the hutch. Sorry about my english language.
But she is a very good place to drink all kind of wiskey, wodka
and other alcoholics with a lot space to do that with all members of the
PSUBS/Yellow sub members.
To bad that the original owners and builders made so many
mistakes in the design. Mild steel, long frame distance,
small bulkhead thickness ...
With 20 % more money the were able to build the ultimate
private submarine.
Maybe we should made our own party 1.1.2000.
regards, Carsten - and people without a submarine are poor people.
