I didn't mean to say I'm against slow scenic tours (and I'm sorry I
rambled);  but lately I've been wondering what it would take to get
submersibles into the marketplace...and maybe at the expense of deep
diving and perfect visibility.  Though it's not as if most subs have 360
degree visibility anyhow (hemispheric portholes at best, usually).  And
you're right, drag at speeds of just a couple knots is no biggie;  but how
much use is a pure electric sub anyhow, with a mile or two radius?
A bit more complexity would get you diesel-electric (or gas) and would
make surface travel tolerable, expanding the range to tens or hundreds of
miles.
