Re: Fwd: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Paint.....Cheap or Proper?

The zinc coating is an interesting point. I've talked to a couple people about this and gotten some different viewpoints. The vendor I have targeted to sandblast the K-600 also has thermal zinc spray capabilities to coat the sub with zinc prior to painting. For those not familiar with it, thermal zinc spraying is an alternative to hot-dip galvanizing for materials that are too large to hot-dip. It looks like an oversize mig welding head and in fact uses an arc to vaporize zinc wire and then blow the molten zinc onto a metal surface via compressed air. It is definitely inferior to the hot-tip process but does offer protection beyond just paint. I'd be interested in any pro/con opinions on whether I should include the zinc coating as part of the finish.
