The Welfreighter and the Welman are complete different designs. 

And the Welman was used operational in Norway. At least four boats. Without succes. 

One is in a Noway museum and one is: 

A friend found some years ago with a metal detector a sideruder of a Welman in a German forest near the baltic coast were a former Midget miliary Biber base was. Means the German catch at least one. In the ruder was a rough square cutout of 2" - obviously they need the metal for something else or they check the metallurgy.
