[PSUBS-MAILIST] Best source for structural calculations

Another question for the technically adept on the list: what is the best 
source that you know for structural calculations on submarines, 
particularly the pressure hull? Before you mention spreadsheets and 
"codes," I want to emphasize that I mean a reference that clearly 
explains the theory, and its connection with specific (necessarily 
simplified) formulas. I for one would not trust my life or anybody 
else's to a "black box" calculator or to "code" guidance. I need 
something that starts with the basic external loads and goes on from there.

The only sub textbook that I have, Kormilitsin & Khalizev, does not go 
into the details of structural calculations (or any other details, for 
that matter). It is primarily a preliminary design text and emphasizes 
sizing calculations.
