Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Battery Pods Weld

Hi Dan,

Sorry, i replied to your message regarding the pods weld the other day and only just realised that i used the wrong account, so you wouldnt have got it.  No wonder nobody replied....

Any suggestions anyone on this weld?

Thanks for that.  Sorry, i dont think i was clear.  I meant on the through hull penetrators that go from the pods into and through the pressure hull. The plans show 2, but i have 3.  2 x electrical penetrators and 1 x vent.

Have a look here.  http://www.guernseysubmarine.com/Extended_files/Page3524.htm

thanks
James

James,
A double fillet weld is correct .  The battery pods are only being "attached" to the outside and are not a critical pressure boundary weld.
Just make sure you have a continuous weld all the way around to avoid any water from infiltrating in between the the flat bar and the pressure hull.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Battery Pods Weld

Hi All,

Im going to attach my battery pods this afternoon.  The plans show 1/4 inch double fillet as opposed to a full penetration weld.  Is that right?  What have other people done with those fittings?

Its certainly a lot easier to do a double fillet but i just want to make sure its right.

Thanks
James
