[PSUBS-MAILIST] Cooling the cabin: a suggested solution

The obvious solution for restricted spaces with DC electrical power available is thermoelectric (Peltier effect) coolers. They are, however, tricky to design - the modules sold are always optimistically rated, so the user has to do his own analysis to get the best possible COP, which will not be high in any case. They're also not cheap, but neither is any other solution for this particular application.

Of course there has to be a way to remove heat from the hot side of the modules, which implies a hull penetration for a cooling loop, and very careful protection of the modules from corrosion while maintaining good heat transfer.

It's how I would do the job, though, if it were my sub. No moving parts, and once it's designed and built, you're finished. There's no maintenance, no refrigerant recharge (and none to leak into the cabin).

Best,
Marc

Sorry David but your idea is called ALZHEIMER'S.
We had a go at this about 16 months back where I suggested using a radiator.
