Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] depth gauges
Transducers for $125.00 in both current and voltage units.

I don't think these kind of transducers require a housing, do they?
Weld a 1/4 or 1/8 NPT coupling as a thru-hull and thread it in. You
could even install a shutoff between the sensor and the thru-hull to
stop the water if the unit failed.
I also don't think a custom pc board is required unless there are lots
of parts involved. I was able to build both a small preamp and amp for
the hydrophone projects using Radio Shack project pc boards (point to
point?). It can get messy, but with a bit of planning you can actually
get alot of components on it.
I'm happy to follow up on dealer agreements if you have a suggested
supplier. However, in most cases it's going to make more sense to just
do a bulk order and try to strike a price-reduction with the supplier.

Jon,
By the time we order custom PC boards and machine a housing for the pressure sensor, the price difference would be much...if a user was able to do his own pc board or point to point wiring on a perfboard and machining for housing, that would be different, but for a home-built kit ala "Heathkit", the pressure gauge you found would be the better route. Maybe PSUBS could become a dealer and get a price break on them!
I DO still plan to pursue the homemade version though if anyone DOES want to go that route.
