By the time we order custom PC boards and machine a housing for the pressure sensor, the price difference would be much...if a user was able to do his own pc board or point to point wiring on a perfboard and machining for housing, that would be different, but for a home-built kit ala "Heathkit", the pressure gauge you found would be the better route. Maybe PSUBS could become a dealer and get a price break on them!
I DO still plan to pursue the homemade version though if anyone DOES want to go that route.

Here's a digital model I found. I prefer LED display vs LCD, but this
one comes with a backlight. You choose your max pressure at ordering
time and this one is $239. Depending upon the cost of a good
transducer, a home-built model might end up costing more. I wonder if
they would configure it to display depth directly.
