Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Wikipedia like psub building wiki
the problem being that someone needs to volunteer for the task..
I nominate Sean.
I guess in an area that someone is passionate about they may want
to summarize a thread. There have been a lot of "stand alone" emails
that would be easy to just paste under a certain heading. Whatever
it's going to be a great resource for anyone new to the group, &
save the old hands a lot of time explaining things that have been
well worked over in the past.

Jon - one of the most formidable challenges with bringing "gem" threads
out of the archives for inclusion in a Wiki will be the task of re-writing
them in a stand-alone format. For example, the thread we had a while back
on pressure vessel welding covered a lot of ground with a handful of
different contributors, so you could simply copy and paste the whole
thread (or link to it in the archives) in the Wiki, but preferably a
summary article would go in the Wiki covering all the major points without
a reader having to follow the conversation from start to finish. - the
problem being that someone needs to volunteer for the task.

Alan,
I agree that capturing data from the mailing list is a perfect use for
the tool. It's best if that work is spread out among many, both to
recognize important things to keep and also to spread the maintenance
load. I have a bit more work to do on the interface to make it easy for
people to add content but can then make it available to members through
their accounts. Non-members could send material to members who could
then add it.
Some user interface feedback would be appreciated as well to make sure
the content was indexed properly and easy to find. Categories seems to
be the best solution with a search option. If you have any suggestions,
or want to "own" this part, send me mail.
Jon
