If Davids communication system requires four connector pins, then a
standardized electrical bulkhead penetrator based on two connector pins
would be rather useless for testing his equipment, wouldn't it?

So, what if someone else (two years from now) comes up with an interesting
device for the community, and that system requires nine connector pins,
plus one 1/4" instrument tubing?

Alec's idea is just great! But we should simply stretch the concept of his
idea a bit further, and agree upon a standard bulkhead penetration flange
instead.

Then each individual system to be tested (or otherwise used) in the future
would have to be delivered with a matching flange (i.e. a modified blind
flange with its required penetrations and/or connectors already
installed).

A flange for this general purpose should have a design that permits any
modified, matching blind flange, with new connector(s) installed, to be
shop tested to its maximum water pressure by turning the blind flange
inside out and hooked up to a proper test rig.
