Phil,
Consider it done. BTW as a little ancillary source
of income I'm putting the finishing touches on a 19th century carriage
house converted to a daily rental on Capitol Hill. It should be available in
another 3 weeks or so. It's two blocks from the library of
congress, four blocks to the Capitol. So next time you're coming to
town please let me know, you get a waiver on the rent.
thanks,
Alec
Hi, Alec!
Just got back from Washington D.D. an hour,or so,
ago - and checked my emails at home. Thought you did a good job with the
video on the 2009 convention - considering the lousy water conditions and
silt bottom! I'd enjoy having a copy of it, if it isn't too much
trouble - glad to cover any DVD costs, etc. Just send to the
office.
D.C. was good - had supper at the Capitol
Building last night with various congresspersons, Admirals, Buzz Aldrin and
other astronauts on the Space side, Sylvia Earle, Joe MacInnis and the usual
suspects on the Ocean side - also gave a
talk at a National Geographic headquarters the day before and at another
banquet at the Canadian Embassy. The Capitol was very cool, though - and the
art in the areas where the public is not allowed is spectacular! An original
oil of George Washington that he actually sat for . . .huge murals of the
Fathers of Confederation and so on

video
My convention video is online. I initially tried
Youtube, but deleted it when I found the file compression made everything
outside the sub a uniform green. All the starfish and sponges simply
disappeared, and it looked like we were admiring a painted green wall
through the viewport. So, I've moved to another site that is not free but
which offers better quality. It?s still jumpy and full of jagged edges
compared to the DVD version, but at least one can see the starfish now. I
think I'll be moving older videos to this other site as well. They have
weekly upload quotas, so look for about one video per week.
I'll mail Ray a full resolution DVD. The site
where this is hosted also allows downloads of the full quality file for one
week. Be forewarned if you choose that option, it's a VERY big download --
784MB. But if you do have the patience for that, it certainly looks a lot
better.
Be aware also there's a fade to black mid movie
to separate two chapters. It isn't ended till you see the credits!
