He could have put laminated plywood stiffeners that are epoxied in place.

I was looking for that as well, but it looked like the bow barrel surface is just scuffed paint to me. The others look smooth in the middle in the pictures I have.

I can see weld marks showing stiffeners half way down each barrel. Hey....the kids got balls anyway. Gotta start somewhere. Frank D.
