Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Roger Rabbit Sub in Falmouth
Thanks Jon, now I understand.
Just thought you hadn't kept up with the times.
I think psubs has the potential to grow rapidly, so yes
good idea keeping the limit as is.

Hi Alan,
The issue isn't one of the consumer having a large file to download, but
one of it taking up a lot of resources on the server. Every time you
send a message to the mailing list, it gets sent out to 230 other
people. Factor that by the number of people who contribute each day and
we easily send out tens of thousands of email during an average week.
With digital cameras these days, we're looking at photo files having a
size of several megabytes. Multiply a 4gb file by 230 deliveries and
it's cost you just shy of a 1gb of network bandwidth. Someone deletes
it by accident and then says, "Hey can you send that again??", and the
entire list gets it again costing another gigabyte of bandwidth. With
hundreds of recipients it doesn't take long to potentially exhaust our
alloted monthly bandwidth.
While less convenient, it makes more sense to put the photo up on a
server somewhere and just send a pointer to it. Not only much less
bandwidth used, but those not interested won't click the link to see it
and save additional bandwidth. We've set up PSUBS so that anyone
(membership not required) can share photos via the PSUBS server.
Likewise, there are plenty of other free servers out there.
By the way, I can't imagine there is more than one sub with the name
roger rabbit on it. I believe we have some photos of this sub up on the
"Projects & Photos" section of the website.

Jon I know your probably busy with convention stuff, but can we have an
increase on the 44kb restriction. We,ve probably all got broadband by
now.
