Hey James, Looks like your a step in front of me with your shiny new thrusters. What Alec was saying about those existing flexible shafts I've been thinking about how to attach them so those said shafts are by far the weakest point. This way they will break of long before the welded in SS thru hull would. If the flexible shafts are incorporated in the assembly, I was thinking that the welded in SS thru hull wouldn't need to be overly large. If the flexible shaft can slip into a SS tube and be attached with thru pins or thin bolts that can go between the internal wiring, then we have a start. What is the OD of the flexible shaft, and how much room is there between the wiring? Alec worked up a very nice looking stern prop shaft thru hull assembly that you can see on his new project page. It will be interesting to see what he works up for the side thrusters. I have some pictures that Ray Keefer took on the interior of Mark Regan's K-250 that show that sub using the Minn Kota control heads like you have mounted on there sides so you can pivot the side thrusters with them. I'm seriously considering using my side thrusters only in a vertical position, unless there is an emergency, such as I'm in a nasty current, or my stern thrusters are not operable. When in transit I might rotate the side thrusters so there is less hydrodynamic drag on them. Then once at the dive site lock them in the vertical position.
