Hi Alan. The inflatable ballast is a good idea. I'm working on a similar
idea for my sub, more as an emergency/redundancy option. Possibly to add
freeboard when surfaced, and maybe act as a splash guard because I don't have a
tower/sail for my hatch. The acrylic tube tower may be an add-on at a later
date.
The full size mock up is also very useful. Lots of good ideas there.
I built a few full size mockups in the early stages of design and found it very
helpful. It was a lot of fun to sit inside the mockups and ponder the various
configurations. It sounds like you've got a good approach and I look
forward to hearing more as you progress. I think the epoxy resin idea has
several merits and wouldn't be surprised if that's where most small subs
