Emile, The front viewport on my K-250 used the the custom poured urethane soft gasket just to cushion the acrylic from the retaining ring. The acrylic was seated in silicone. It wasn't hard to remove the acrylic with that type of sealant with out damaging the acrylic. I put some blue tape on the window, then a thin piece of cedar wood, and then just used a thin mini pry bar to pry against the inner metal flange. I plan to use a gasket to seal the acrylic like I've seen in Stachiw's book, for easy removal. I'll adhere the gasket to the welded in seating surface. Here are some pictures of the poured outer gasket and the acrylic being removed. There was water coming out because the sub had a fair bit of water in it when I removed acrylic some time back. http://www.frappr.com/?a=viewphoto&id=2628470&pid=6212243 http://cid-5085d10eb6afe47c.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Front%20Large%20Viewport Regards, Szybowski From: Jumachine@comcast.net To: personal_submersibles@psubs.org Subject: Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] K350 porthole question Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2009 18:44:52 -0500 Emile,
The flat rubber I thing I think your referring to
is there only as a cushion. The actual viewport lenses are sealed in
with urethane calking. I made the flat rings as the print shows but then
after talking to the captain I decided not to use them. I laid down a bed
of urethane goo and then pressed the lens in to it. If I ever have to
remove a lens I know I won't be reusing it, but it's sealed.
