Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] new flicks

What they are made of was quite the ordeal. I could not think of anything that would fit
my meager budget, sooo I just did a lot of work.

I started with 3/4 inch plywood. I then completely wrapped them in fiber glass (hand laid)
to a thickness of about 3/16. I then put on a layer of Dura-glass. It is like a body bondo.
It is completely water proof and adheres very well to fiberglass. Lots of sanding then
just my non-rattle can red oxide primer to keep it clean

From past experience it should hold up for a while.

I have already come to the conclusion that I will put it in the water this spring, spend all
summer testing and adjusting. Then next winter tear down and rebuild. So I guess my
model will be full size hehhe

The other problem I do not know the actual shape yet. I should start on the side saddle tanks
next week, and then start to build the outer shell. As you know fabricating sheet metal is a chore.
I have a bunch parts being bent to 4' 3' and 2' diameters coming and I am just going to have
at it. Should be fun

Hi Dean. Nice pictures. You've come a long way. I don't think the control surfaces are too large. They look in proportion to the sub. Should give you good control at slow speeds. What are they made of ? Nice work on those. Only suggestion I would make is to build a scale model and try it out in the water. You could weight it neutral, tie it behind a row boat, and see how it travels, etc. I've learned lots of unexpected things from doing this. Keep up the good work. Frank D.
