[PSUBS-MAILIST] Vertical Sub Options

Hey Andy,  I had not seen some of the data on that site, thanks.  The little animation is cool.  Brian has mentioned FLIP a couple of times, and it is shown on his web site.  Brian's sub is configured to be able to exit when vertical and  at the surface thru a stern hatch, which should be a nice feature for egress and other things.  My hydrobatic sub doesn't have a hatch at the bow or stern for such a configuration, and with my sponsons at the end of the wings I should have a pretty stable egress platform.

After making a couple of crude models of the pressure hull of my Batic THUWG, I realized I was not going to be able to make if go completely vertical when fully submerged in the configuration I had worked up to that point.  Having three pressure hulls, one in the bow for the pilot, one in the stern for the co-pilot, and one in between with the movable battery bank, made it so I had to much buoyancy at the bow and stern to allow the movable battery bank to move far enough to counter act that buoyancy without some additional help.

Here is the original drawing.

And the last hull configuration can be seen here.

But I think I might just add that feature on the second one (if it gets built) to keep things simple(er). Why you ask would I want to make the sub go vertical when submerged. Well because it's fun would be the shortest answer. What's good for a reed fish is good for me. Dancing with whales will be a blast.
