Re: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Soft Tanks

Hi Dan,

Thanks again for your input. It's always better to run these things by someone who been there.

Best regards,

Jim K

Jim,

I'm no expert, but in comparison to my K sub for over all size, your freeboard is about the same proportion.

Hi Dan,

I hadn't thought of that. I did a rough look at it and my existing design should give me about 23 - 25 inches freeboard to the top of the conning tower. I think I'm comfortable with that.

Thanks for the idea.

Best Regards,

Jim,

More important then the percentage of your total subs weight is the weight they will allow to be pushed out of the water.  Take the weight of the water your tanks will hold and figure how much of the sub will be lifted out to see how much free board you'll have.

Subject: [PSUBS-MAILIST] Soft Tanks

Hi All Psubbers,

I have completed preliminary design of my soft tanks and am looking for input. They will be shoulder tanks tapered from the sides and ends at 2-3 degrees to minimize the chance of bubble entrapment. As they are now the will support about 12 % of my subs total weight.

The bottoms will be mostly closed with rows of 4 inch diameter holes to minimize burping in rough water.

Does anyone have a guideline on this area as to what percentage is good etc.

Best Regards,

Jim K
