Brent, My hatch is 9.5 inches
tall from the hull. When I am on the surface with a one foot chop I need
to keep the dome closed or risk taking on some water. As to an enclosed
MBT, mine is open and I do loose some air as we tow it but I do not ride in it
during the tow and as long as the hatch is secured it will not sink. I
then refill the MBTs with one of those battery operated emergency air
compressors you carry in your car that I rigged up with a long tube that will
reach under the MBTs. I can then step onto the sub, open the hatch and enter
it.
Also, I remember some one mounted their AGM batteries upside down and they
worked fine until they tried charging them upside down which resulted in
fluid loss. Check the archives on that one.
