RE: [PSUBS-MAILIST] New Submarine Project... p.s. from Lawrie inAustralia..

Hi Laurie... I am Also East Coast Australia, Sydney infact...
I think this could now make it 3 Aussies with Submarine asperations on
PSUB..
I am also looking at running a diesel and most likley run it direct to
the shaft. Having Thrusters on each of my Dive planes that will be used
soley when submerged...

Ooo, Ooo, I just had an Idea with regards to a floding snorkle...! What
if it was hinged and by using an airbag that would be inflated at the
surface pushing the snorkle up strait and when submerged the pressure
will compress the bag and that way angle the snorkle back. The lower you
go the more the snorkle will drop down..

P.S.

Why not run your diesel directly to the shaft?

Because in open sea with big waves and running just below the surface
your snorkel will submerge occasionally. It is important to have a
good shut off system and pump out inadvertent water while maintaining
speed and course. Your need the shaft to continue spinning for various
purposes should your diesel shut down un-expectantly. Its a safety
aspect of the design.

Bigger boats do run the diesel directly all the time because the
snorkel is a long way out of the water and the volume of the pressure
vessel they are housed in is quiet large.

You can interconnect the engine room to the crew compartment but have
automatic means of closing the hatch should the internal pressure
suddenly drop below 0.9 atm.
